Psych Nurse Director

We are seeking a Psych Nurse Director.  The Psych Nurse Director will oversee the entire Behavioral Health Department,  Including planning, implementing, administering and evaluating the total nursing care of the psychiatric department.  They ensure professional, age specific, individualized nursing care; and addresses spiritual needs, cultural values, psychosocial needs and barriers to learning. They will direct, supervise and coordinate the activities of nursing personnel assigned to the unit and department. They are also responsible for offering constructive suggestions for the improvement of patient care and the management of the nursing unit and department as their knowledge and experience warrants.  They will maintain treatment activities of the department in compliance with standards of practice, department and hospital policies and procedures and regulatory standards such as JCAHO, IDPH and the Illinois Mental Health Code.  The Director will demonstrate knowledge base and actions to perform utilization case management, as well as able to do multiple tasks in an organized manner.  Excellent negotiation skills with physicians and others to ensure patients receive appropriate and timely care.  Self-directed learner; enthusiastically seeks ways to improve patient care and motivate others to participate in improvement activities



  • Must be an Illinois licensed Registered Nurse
  • BSN or Master degree required
  • Supervision/Management level Leadership experience
  • At least 5 years of Psych experience
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment
  • Has experience in Time Management and Delegation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
